Happy Frick’ng Friday 🏳️🌈
The first week of Pride month has been packed, and the rest of the month looks even busier. I attended the Hot & Steamy Book Event in Portland, where I met a ton of great authors and lovely readers, many new to queer romance. I look forward to going again next year. Here’s my booth, and I’m so thankful my spouse came with to help set up and be my PA for the event!
This week has been all about getting words in to finish my next release, and the end of the school year. My gremlins are going into sixth and eighth grade, and I just finished the hardest year in my fifteen years in Education. I did agree to do Summer School, but that’s easy compared to my past ten months. My classroom is cleaned out, words are flowing, and I’m ready for the month/year ahead!

Frick’ng Fall Fun
Autumn Has Been busy!
August had me going to Oregon for Books & Beaches, finishing my Naughty Charity Anthology short, the start of a new position in my day job teaching, and both of my gremlins officially in Middle School. Not as much writing got done as I’d hoped, but I was also helping my spouse start her business!
September was a flurry of writing Aftercare at Randy’s, but I ended the month visiting friends in San Francisco for a fun weekend… followed by immediately jetting off to Toronto! And silly me, two weeks later I did a quick trip to Los Angeles, so I ended October sick and then at the dentist to get a root canal.
All said, my first visit to Canada was a blast! I co-hosted a panel with A.E. Lister and D.C. Emerson on writing non-binary and trans characters and gender-non-conforming authors, and it was well received. My editor, Jenn, even popped by and made me stay up way too late!
I wish I could name all of the amazing authors and readers I connected with at Northern Rainbow Romance Retreat, but I have to thank Heather (MMRomanceReviewer) for organizing such an inclusive and welcoming event! I know it will be even bigger and better next year.
Setting up my table at the first ever Northern Rainbow Romance Retreat in Toronto, Canada Why did I go to LA in the middle of a work week and make myself sick? Because I won Troye Sivan and Charlie XCX tickets! After connecting with author Erin Russell at NRRR, we bonded over a love of music. Plus, she was kind enough to pick me up and let me sleep at her place! It was the first pop concert for both of us, and we spent the whole time dancing, singing along, and basking in the queer joy. We didn’t have out, queer authors being unabashedly themselves until recently, and I am here for it!

🤔Why is this being shared on Thursday when RA loves a Frick’ng Friday alliteration, you ask?
Tomorrow I’ll be driving over nine hours from Sacramento, California to the coast of Oregon. I’m excited for a couple days of cooler weather, books, and fun! Normally I like my beaches warm and sunny, but it has been a hot summer, so the highs in the upper 60’s F will be welcome.
🏝️Why is RA going to Oregon with a bunch of readers and authors?
Because I’m an attending author at Books & Beaches! Join us on the beach, August 2-4 in Lincoln City, Oregon! There is a beach meet-and-greet Friday evening next to the hotel/casino, fifty authors and a bunch of narrators signing and a Murder Mystery Dinner Saturday, then panels plus more signing Sunday! I couldn’t resist the mix of books, beach, murder mystery, and being around the reader community all within a half-day’s drive…

A New Domain
A domain is an area of territory or expertise, and I have to admit, I’m no expert at running a website. Even if I do own it. Still, it felt like this site was no longer a blog, and the name should reflect this shift. After years of owning rafrickauthor.blog, I decided it was time for an upgrade! Introducing: www.rafrickauthor.com, my new author site address and I even have a fancy matching email: ra@rafrickauthor.com

Frick) With the shift, I hope to post on here monthly with updates on my current works in progress, upcoming releases, charity anthologies I’m a part of, and breaking news from the world of Frick!

2) Make posts on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Goodreads, etc) pertaining to RA’s books. This will include commenting on others’ posts, making recommendations, sharing one another’s content, and creating your own content, as it relates to RA’s stories (new releases or backlist). There will be a minimum requirement each month you will be expected to meet.

A little history and traditions:
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, and the namesake for the holiday on the day he died. While this holiday was originally just a Saint’s day about the Catholic man who converted the Celts to Christianity a millennium ago, Americans of Irish descent have made it into a celebration of past traditions. We wear green to represent one of Ireland’s nickname as the Emerald Isle, the national flag, and the lucky four-leaf clover.🍀

Today I’ll slow-cook corned beef with potatoes and veggies, continuing the traditional meal our parents always made us. Of course, there will also be alcoholic drinks, but neither of us are fans of Guinness! 🧚♂️My mom always made our milk green and told us the Leprechauns visited, so sometimes I do that for my kids as well. The point is to celebrate old traditions and make new ones in the spirit of fun and family.
